This week (20 May - 25 May) we will...
... in Reading, continue our unit on research. The students will spend the next few weeks researching a topic and putting together an expository research product. We will use all of the strategies we have learned this year to complete this product. We will choose a topic; find different resources that tell us about our topic; synthesize the information learned while monitoring our reading; then summarize the information by putting it into our own words! This will all be completed by writing our final copy research expository book. WHEW!! We will be busy! Homework: NONE
... in Math, review concepts regarding place value. We will also review the story problem routine using addition and subtraction. Homework: We will no longer have math fluency pages for homework. A packet was sent home which contained all of the (+) combination sheets through 10. These do NOT have to be completed and sent in for homework. They are for your student to use to practice their facts for the timed tests given twice a week in the classroom.
... in Word Study, continue the Spelling/Word Study program. We will complete all work in class, but will still have an assessment on Friday. Homework: None
...in Writer's Workshop now work on many end-of the year activities in Writer's Workshop, so will be reviewing all of our previous writing genres throughout these activities!!
... in Science, discuss plant characteristics.
...in Social Studies, discuss service learning. We will discuss ways students can make America great--How can they help? We will begin our week-long service project. The students will collect tickets from the teachers for their good behaviors. At the end of the week, we will count the tickets and then make a monetary donation (depending on the number of tickets we collect) to the West Independent School District to help them with their rebuilding regarding the devastating plant explosion. We are excited to help the kiddoes realize that even at their age, they can help others in a big way!! YEA!!!
- Thanks for reading! It's a great day to be a Dolphin!
