Greentree Elementary opened on August 31, 1981, in a rapidly growing community. It began as the smallest elementary in the Humble District with 300 students and within three years became the largest with over 900. Three times, since its opening, the school has been redistricted due to overcrowding and now has a current enrollment of 728 and 62 staff members. Greentree currently serves students from Greentree Village Sections 1-4, Hunters Ridge sections 1 & 4, Kings Crossing Patio Homes Sections 10, 14 & 18, Kings Crossing South, Town Center Apartments & Kings River.
