Saturday, May 7th (Optional 5-6:30 pm

Fee:  The district does not fund MS Club Soccer, however Mr. Koehler uses minimal funds for bus transportation and to subsidize referees.  A $15 fee will cover black tube socks, team spirit shirt, and referee costs.  The cost can be as little as $5/person if a child has the black tube socks and the orange soccer spirit shirt from last year. Students should turn the money in at practice to Melanie Rousselor Mr. Koehler.

Equipment: AMS will provide items such as soccer balls, cones, flags, and goals for practices and games.  Players are encouraged to bring their own soccer ball, if possible, to use during dribbling drills.  All players must have shin guards to protect their shins at practice and games.  Please have your child speak with Mr. Koehler if they are unable to purchase shin guards.

Uniforms: AMS will provide uniform shorts and shirts to use during games at no cost.  It is the responsibility of the parent and child to maintain the quality of the uniform through proper care and washing.  Returning the uniform shorts and shirts in a manner that the uniforms cannot be used again will result in the parent paying for the cost of the uniform.  Players are responsible for purchasing the black tube socks and a team spirit shirt (see “Fee” above).

Games: Each team play 5 games.  The two teams with the highest point totals (win = 3 points, tie = 1 point) will play in the league championships.  The games will begin Friday, April 15th.

Eligibility: HISD Soccer club teams will follow the same UIL eligibility requirements as the UIL sports available during athletics.  Players may practice when they have a grade below 70%, but MAY NOT participate in the games when failing a core or elective course.  Mr. Koehler will monitor grades on a regular basis.  Pre-AP UIL Waiver does apply.

Health Physical: Safety is key!  Students who are currently in Athletics, had a physical after April 1, 2015, OR submitted a physical after February 1, 2016 is able to participate in district athletic events.  The physical must be completed on the Humble ISD Physical Form.  All students who do not have a physical are required to have one completed before the soccer games begin the last week in April.  Any physical completed after February 1, 2016 is good for the following school year as well.  Physicals can be done on at participating Walgreen’s and some H-E-B RediClinic locations.

Liability Waiver:  The district is requiring a Humble ISD Release of Liability for Participation for students who participate in the club soccer program.  This was required last year as well.  A new liability waiver is required each year.  Basically, the signer assumes the risk knowing that physical contact can lead to injury.  I hope to develop a safe environment for play, including certified referees for games.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact me.

Absences: A parent must notify Mr. Koehler (281-641-4602, Karl.Koehler@humble.k12.tx.us) if the child is unable to practice for that day.

Changing clothes: Players may bring their soccer gear in an athletic bag and leave the bag in the Assistant Principals’ office OR in their athletic locker during the day.  Students are to report to the boys’/girls’ locker room shortly after 4:00 pm to change into soccer gear.  We will meet on the football fields outside the theater exits at 4:10 pm on practice days.

Inclement weather: We will hold soccer practice in light rain when the field is not saturated with water.  Rainy weather after track season ends will be held in the gym for rainy weather, but players must wear athletic shoes (no cleats) to play in the gym.

Hydration: Players will have access to water fountains during practice, but are encouraged to bring water bottles.  AMS will work to acquire 5-gallon water containers to keep in the practice field.

Expectations and Consequences: The AMS soccer team aims to develop players physically and strong in character.  The players are students first, so we will emphasize academics over athletics, which includes student behavior in the classroom that adversely affects their learning and that of their classmates.  Students who misbehave in the classroom or receive consequences can lose playing time.  Students who receive the following consequences can affect their playing time in the following way:

Thursday Class: lose a half of playing time; ISS: lose one game of playing time
