New Main Entrance

Floor-to-ceiling windows; natural light, a modern feel, and visibility are just a few benefits that the front-entry facelift provides to students, staff, and visitors.

In the past, it was easy for visitors to drive down Woodland Hills Drive and not realize they've passed by the school because the front entrance to the school is hard to see from the road. "Now, the front entrance is pronounced and easily identifiable,"" said Principal Wes Solomon.

Third Gym

Kingwood Park High School has received a third gymnasium to help meet the demand for indoor practice space - especially in inclement weather. In the past, UIL Athletics and Fine Arts, extracurricular clubs, and community groups have vied for limited gym availability. "It was common for us to [have to] maximize our space," said Solomon.

"The third gym gives us an additional large, open space for everyone to use," he said, and "When bad weather occurs, our athletic teams have another open space to work inside, away from the weather elements."

Building Trades Shop

KPHS architecture and building trades students were previously in two separate locations --- planning, designing, and creating models indoors, but constructing structures outdoors near the tennis courts. With the creation of one interior shop, students can now conduct all of their work indoors. "The biggest factor to building a construction project is adhering to a strict timeline based on the variable of weather," said Solomon. "An inside building classroom eliminates the weather element and allows the project to stay on schedule."

Culinary Classroom

The new culinary classroom features state-of-the-art equipment and additional space for aspiring chefs and food-service professionals.

"We have never had a culinary program, at KPark," said Solomon. "Our students who were interested in the culinary program had to travel across the district to Summer Creek High School for that program."

Now, students can stay on their home campus and receive education and training in their field of interest.

Mock Courtroom

KPHS has added a mock courtroom to it's Criminal Justice program. "Any time a teacher can take a world that exists outside the school building and present it in a relevant way to students inside the classroom, authentic learning occurs. The student's learning benefits greatly from making real world connections," said Solomon
