Humble ISD and Lone Star College Classes

Schools and classes of Humble ISD and Astronomy classes at local campuses of Lone Star College can request access to the Observatory for field trips and observing at no charge.  Astronomers affiliated with the Observatory can also request access for research and observations at no charge.

The Observatory is open for Public Nights, held during the first Friday of each month. At these events, you can view the celestial wonders through the Observatory's telescopes, see laser tours of the night sky and tour our Astronomy in Art installations.

  • Reservations are required. Click here to claim a free ticket for everyone in your group. Although children are welcome, know that children age 4 and younger will have difficulty seeing through the telescope.

  • Capacity is limited to 70 people for each monthly event.

  • Bad weather could cancel the event and you will receive an email if this happens.

  • Questions about these Public Night events can be directed to Dr. Aaron Clevenson.

Time

When you are observing in astronomy the exact time is very important.  This time is from the US Bureau of Standards.

Non-Humble ISD Organizational Groups

We request that a donation be made to the Humble ISD Education Foundation.  If you are interested please follow these steps:

  • Please contact the Observatory Director, Dr. Aaron Clevenson, via email to request a specific date and time.

  • Once a date and time has been reserved, we will provide you with a link to make a donation to the Humble ISD Education Foundation.

  • Once the donation has been processed, you will receive a confirmation email from the Observatory Director.

The Insperity Observatory is located on Humble ISD property. Please note these rules and regulations:

  • No alcohol is permitted on school district property

  • No tobacco products may be used on school district property

  • No firearms are allowed on school district property

  • No food or drink is allowed inside the observatory

  • Adequate adult supervision must be provided for children visiting the observatory

  • Astronomers that operate the observatory are volunteers.  Reservations require the presence of certified building managers and astronomers.  If these resources are not available, then the reservation will be rescheduled or cancelled or a refund of the donation will be provided

Requested donations vary based on the size of the group and the nature of the group.  This is a breakdown of that structure with detailed information:

  • Please enter a quantity of 1 for the category that best defines the group and its size.

  • Additional donations are encouraged to help operate and maintain the observatory.  We do not receive funds from the school district budget.  We are dependent on donations to operate the building and maintain the equipment.

  • Schools inside of Humble ISD and campuses of Lone Star College can make reservations at the observatory at no cost through the Humble ISD and Lone Star College request form.

  • School support groups are defined as groups that directly support the students of Humble ISD.  This includes PTAs, PTOs, Boy Scout troops, Girl Scout troops, etc.

  • Not-for-profit entities include schools in other school districts, private schools, religious groups, and other not-for-profit entities.

  • All other companies and organizations are considered for-profit entities.

Weather Forecast

Below is the weather as predicted for the next 36 hours at the observatory.

Note that the prediction is not always right. We usually are there even on cloudy nights in the hopes that we will see a clear spot through which to observe.

For the top four charts, the darker blue the better (Cloud Cover, Transparency, Seeing, and Darkness).
