Performing Careers Pathways
Humble ISD is excited to launch our Performing Careers Courses starting in the 2024-2025 school year! These innovative fine arts courses will give Humble ISD students the opportunity to dive deeper into courses specializing in self promotion and marketing, videography and sound recording and editing, identity development, individual vocal ability, lyric composition, choreography, music mixing, backyard band development, and more!
The Performer's Path:
Building & Sustaining a Career in the Performing Arts
Start your journey with this year-long introduction to performing arts careers. Students will take this course to learn more about each of the specializations, as well as to hone their skills with the basics of music theory, marketing, sounds and video editing, leveraging social media, and more as they start their careers in solo or small band performance! This course serves as a prerequisite for remaining courses in the pathway.
Soloist Essentials:
Humble's Got Talent!
Whether your dream is to make it to American Idol, America's Got Talent, or local venues, this course specializes in expanding the vocal repertoire of individuals in the pop, country, and modern genres. Following The Performer's Path, students may elect to take Soloist Essentials I and Soloist Essentials II, both year-long fine arts courses.
Rhythm and Rhyme:
The Art of Hip Hop Lyricism
Similarly to Soloist Essentials, Rhythm and Rhyme: The Art of Hip Hop Lyricism is designed for soloists, but in the genres of rap and hip hop. Students may elect to take Rhythm and Rhyme I and Rhythm and Rhyme II, both year long courses following The Performer's Path.
Live Band Performance:
Creating and Managing your Backyard Band
Whether you prefer rock, grunge, or another genre, if you've got aspirations for performing in a garage-style band, this is the course for you! Students with some experience in drums, guitar, bass, keyboard, and/or singing will be find bandmates to rock out with! Following The Performer's Path, students may elect to take Live Band Performance I and Live Band Performance II, both year-long fine arts courses.
Mastering the Mix:
Guide to Music Mixing Techniques & Succeeding as a Professional DJ
From Radio DJs to Club DJs to Mobile DJs, this course will help students who have an artistic flair for mixing and remixing music. Students will learn techniques through various musical sources, as well as beats, percussion breaks, baselines, and more through several genres of music. Students may elect to take Mastering the Mix I and Mastering the Mix II, both year-long courses.
Digital Audio Technology
Students interested in audio production careers related to broadcasting, film and television, music production, animation and game design, and others will explore skills in producing professional audio and video for a variety of real world use. The Performer's Path is not a required prerequisite for this pathway of courses. Students may take Digital Audio Technology I, Digital Audio Technology II, which are both year-long single blocked courses for CTE credit. The Practicum in Digital Audio Technology is the culmination of these courses and is a year-long double blocked CTE course.
