Kingwood High School and Humble ISD are saddened to share that former Humble ISD Principal Mr. Andrew “Andy” L. Wells passed away on Sept. 17, 2024.

Mr. Wells earned a bachelors of science in 1961 and a masters of education in 1968 from Sam Houston State University. Prior to coming to Humble ISD, Mr. Wells was a teacher and coach in Sealy ISD for six years.

Mr. Wells joined Humble ISD in 1967 as a science teacher and coach at Humble High School. He was assistant principal of Humble High School for the 1970-71 school year. In August 1971, Mr. Wells became principal of Humble Middle School and served in that position until 1977.

Mr. Wells became the founding principal of Kingwood Middle School in July 1977 until December 1978. Mr. Wells became the founding principal of Kingwood High School in 1978 and served as KHS principal until his retirement in 1998.

The baseball field at Kingwood High School was named the Andy Wells Field in 1999, and the yearly Humble ISD Andy Wells Cross Country Invitational is an event that welcomes athletes from across our region since 2002.

Mr. Wells left his footprints, literally, at KHS. You can find them in the concrete picnic area in front of the school.

A celebration of life for Andrew “Andy” Wells will be held at the Humble Civic Center from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 26.
