Bass Fishing Team
General Information
Welcome to the Kingwood Bass Fishing Team
(FRESHWATER)
Russell Traylor (KHS), Missi Taylor (KPHS) and I are the sponsors for the Bass Fishing Team. The students will be fishing the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA) trail. Their website is Thsba. I would definitely look under the Info tab on the site and look through it. Also click on the Schedule tab to see what lakes we will be fishing and when. We are in the Bayou City Division. It is a competitive series of tournaments, one a month Sept, Oct, Nov, Feb & Mar. Regionals are in Apr and State is in May. Most tourneys are Sat only, but State is a 2 day event and they add the total of the 2 days for your weight. So your son would need to have a boat or find a partner that has a boat and the captain would need to be over 21. We meet once a week (except the first week of school) during Mustang hour, on Thursdays, B Block. You'll find out about Mustang Hour during orientation or whatever they have for freshmen but in a nutshell the whole school goes to lunch for an hour and students can attend tutoring, have club and UIL meetings or just hang out with friends for an hour. When we start meeting at the beginning of the year he can meet the other anglers. Some will have a boat and be looking for a partner while some will be needing a partner with a boat. Sometimes you can find friends or family that are willing to volunteer their time to be boat captains. THSBA is the main trail that we fish but there are others to compete in as well for extra practice and possible winnings. Let us know if you have any questions.
Check out the THSBA website or download the app for information about tournaments and memberships required to compete.
Weekly student meetings will be every Thu, B block, of Mustang/Flex Hour (lunch) in Mr Traylor's room. We will discuss the upcoming tournament lake as well try to teach about all kinds of fishing techniques, tackle, maintenance of tackle, boats, motors, etc, and who knows what else. We will discuss as a team and work together as a team.
