The aim of SHF is to stimulate interest in the study of French, to promote high standards of scholarship, to reward scholastic achievements, to create enthusiasm for and an understanding of Francophone culture and civilization, to promote and perpetuate international friendship, to reward efforts toward furthering solidarity in the French-speaking world.

Applicants must be enrolled in the fourth semester of French or higher, and must have earned an A average in French for three semesters and an overall B in other subjects.  Candidates must be in the 10th, 11th or 12th grade of high school.  Transfer students must have spent at least one full semester at Kingwood High School before becoming eligible. 

The charter fee for chapter membership is fifteen dollars, which is payable prior to initiation.  This fee is payable once only, as long as the member remains a member in good standing.  The SHF sponsor exercises the prerogative to revoke a student’s membership for reasons of failure to maintain a high scholastic average, of behavior inappropriate to an honor society, of an insufficient number of points, etc.  If a student loses membership privileges due to an insufficient number of points, membership may be regained by reapplying for membership.  Graduating members may wear red, white and blue honor cords provided they are enrolled in an advanced French class, meet basic membership requirements, and have earned five points within the school year.

Point requirements must be fulfilled before the last day in April, every year. 

These points can be earned as follows:

• one point for attending Texas French Symposium

• one point for scoring at French Symposium (ribbon or above)

• one point for taking the National French Test (Le Grand Concours)

• up to three points for tutoring (one point per hour)

• one point for making a poster or a power point (maximum 3 points)

• one point for community service

• one point for being a French Club Officer
