Your student’s course requests for the 2025 - 2026 school year will be available to view in the Home Access Center (HAC) on April 14th through April 18th. The course requests are a list of classes your student selected for the next school year.

Hello! I’m Jennifer Carter, lead school counselor at Lake Houston Middle School. As a graduate of Humble ISD, I absolutely love having the opportunity to work in the wonderful community I have called home for over forty-six years. This is my nineteenth year as a professional school counselor and my thirtieth year in education (all in Humble ISD). I am passionate about providing a comprehensive school counseling program that includes Guidance, Responsive Services, Individual Planning, and System support as outlined by the Texas Model for School Counseling Programs.

A little about me:
I taught first graders for nine years and then third graders for two years at Oaks Elementary School. I then transitioned to Pine Forest Elementary School as a professional school counselor for twelve years.  In August 2018, I embarked upon a new adventure with the opportunity to open a new middle school as a counselor at West Lake Middle School. Most recently I was the Master Scheduler and a grade level counselor at TMS for 3 years.

I attended Stephen F. Austin (Axe 'Em Jacks!!) for my undergraduate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Early Childhood Education. I then attended Sam Houston State University where I pursued my Masters in Professional School Counseling in addition to obtaining my license as a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have been a Nationally Board Certified Counselor since 2015. In addition, I obtained my Administration certificate from Lamar University. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve on the board of the Texas School Counselor Association for the past nine years.

In working with all students, my goal is to work with the whole child in understanding personal social/emotional and academic/career aspects to support his/her learning.  My goal is to help all students feel understood, valued, and heard.  I look forward to a fabulous year together as we navigate middle school together and set a course for high school planning.

National Certified Counselor is the premier certification for the counseling profession. NCCs have voluntarily met high national standards for the practice of counseling. They are competent in skills such as human growth and development, social and cultural foundations, helping relationships, group counseling, career counseling, assessment, research and program evaluation, and professional counseling.

I am thrilled to be returning to Middle School! These were my people for 19 years and I am so glad to be returning as a school counselor. When people ask why I taught this age group, I would say, "Middle School was one of the worst times of my life. If I can make it a little better for them, then that's what I want to do." Helping to open a new school gives me the opportunity to help build the culture and community from the ground up.

I'm truly blessed to be a counselor in Humble ISD. I am excited in continuing our important work at Lake Houston Middle School. I am looking forward to connect with students, collaborate with passionate colleagues, share new ideas, and make a positive impact in a community that wants to build a legacy of excellence. Go Hawks!
