How to Join Track & Field

All athletes are required to participate and complete a minimum of 2 tryouts in either the FALL and/or WINTER. Tryouts are used to evaluate athletes for potential events. It is based on their natural athletic ability, not how good of athletic shape they are in. Below are the minimum varsity standards for each event. These must be achieved at tryouts in order to be considered for specific events.

Please contact Coach Roper for more information at ahmad.roper@humbleisd.net.

Varsity Standards

Varsity Roster Guidelines: Every year, all returning varsity athletes must undergo an annual re-evaluation to secure a spot on the varsity team. Senior athletes, despite their seniority, do not receive automatic placement on the team. The criteria for selection are detailed below. Seniors who fail to meet the standards will be assigned to the practice squad. Our guiding principle is "Best is the Standard," ensuring that only the finest athletes earn positions on the varsity team. Underclassmen with superior performance will not be held back. Additionally, varsity athletes have the possibility of transitioning to the JV team if their practice, meet performance, school attendance, and behavior fall short of varsity expectations.

Junior Varsity Traveling Squad: Comprising the following tier of athletes who haven't met the varsity criteria, this team is designed to accommodate those who don't quite make the varsity cut. Our JV team is limited to 4 athletes per event, underscoring the select availability of positions. Athletes on the JV roster have the potential to shift upwards or downwards based on practice, meet performance, attendance, and conduct.
