Advanced Coursework

Students in Humble ISD have the opportunity to choose from a variety of advanced coursework. More information about each opportunity can be found using the links to the left. You can also check out our ParentU where we discuss all of these options below.

Pre-AP Courses Will Now Be Titled Advanced Courses

After Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021, courses that had been titled “Pre-AP” were changed to “Advanced.” This is due to trademark restrictions imposed by the College Board regarding the Pre-AP term.

There will be no changes to any other components of the courses other than the title. Grading practices, weighted grades for grade point average calculations, teachers, curriculum, and content all remain as they were prior to the name change. The name change applies only to courses that were titled Pre-AP. Courses that were titled AP or Advanced Placement remain titled AP courses.

Parents and students will see the Advanced course name reflected wherever the courses are listed, including in Home Access Center (HAC). Advanced courses equip students with the requisite skills  and knowledge necessary to be successful in a multitude of upper level programs such as Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Dual Credit, and UT OnRamps.

Humble ISD joins districts across Texas in moving away from the Pre-AP title due to the College Board’s trademark. The College Board informed districts to stop using the Pre-AP term by the fall of 2022. Founded in 1900, the College Board is a national organization that operates testing programs including the SAT, PSAT, and Advanced Placement.

Important AP Testing Dates & Information

Dates for AP exam testing can be found on College Board's website. Some circumstances may make it necessary for students to test late. When the cause of late testing is beyond the control of the school and the student, there’s no additional fee—most reasons for late testing don’t incur a fee.

Some reasons may incur an additional $40 per exam late testing fee, such as retesting due to security violations. The late-testing reasons allowed without incurring an additional fee are:

  • Academic contest/event

  • Athletic contest/event

  • Conflict with IB or Cambridge exam

  • Conflict with nationally, province-, or state-mandated test

  • Delayed shipment

  • Disabilities accommodations issues

  • Emergency: bomb scare or fire alarm

  • High school graduation

  • Language lab scheduling conflict

  • Makeup AP Exam due to an incident during the initial exam

  • Religious holiday/observance

  • School closing: election, national holiday, or natural disaster

  • Serious injury, illness, or family tragedy

  • Strike/labor conflict

Students should speak with their campus testing coordinator if they are unable to test on the scheduled day. More information about late-testing can be found on College Board's website.

Special Notice

UT Austin Transcripts Available Thursday, June 16
Beginning June 16, eligible students may request a transcript through UT Austin's Registrar if they earned and accepted credit for math, science, technology, and spring 2022 humanities courses. The Registrar charges a $20 fee for each transcript ordered, which is a residential fee, not an OnRamps fee. Students will not automatically receive a transcript. Information on the steps for requesting a transcript can be found on the OnRamps website.

Students who need a letter verifying enrollment in OnRamps or non-attendance at The University of Texas at Austin can request it through an
online form. If students need a letter verifying their grade or credit before June 16, they can use the same form to make that request.

The University of Texas at Austin OnRamps logo

OnRamps is an innovative dual enrollment and professional development initiative led by The University of Texas at Austin dedicated to preparing high school students for postsecondary student success.

Using a hybrid delivery approach, students meet rigorous university-level college readiness standards and have the opportunity to earn UT Austin credit from a UT faculty member and high school credit from their local teacher. Eligible students may elect to enroll in an OnRamps course for a letter grade. If the student earns and accepts credit in the course, the grade will appear on the student's university transcript. A letter grade of D- or better is considered passing.

OnRamps college credit earned for a letter grade of C- or above for courses with a Core Curriculum designation are required by law to transfer to any public higher education institution in the state of Texas. Most OnRamps courses have Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS) equivalency numbers approved by The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin).
