Humble ISD 2023 Rodeo Art Award Winners attended the March School Board Meeting to be recognized for their outstanding accomplishments.

Twenty-four Humble ISD students were recognized at the March Board Meeting on Tuesday, March 21, for being top winners at the Humble ISD Rodeo Art Show or selected for the Texas Youth Art Month Exhibition.

The Humble ISD Rodeo Art Show was held on January 30 at the Charles Bender Performing Arts Center. Students entered a variety of pieces that included 2D and 3D. A panel of five experienced art educators considered originality, creativity, craftsmanship and western content in their judging.

The top awards the judges could give included Special Merit, Gold Medal and Best in Show. Twenty-two Humble ISD students earned these awards.

In addition to the top awards, 10 pieces from the nearly 1,000 entries were selected by the Humble Education Foundation Auction Committee to advance to the Gala Auction in April. Students will directly benefit from the auction proceeds from their artwork. Twelve elementary pieces were selected and photographed for card sets that will be sold in the Spirit Store in the Administration Building.

March is also National Youth Art Month and every year the Texas Art Education Association sponsors an art exhibit in the lower rotunda of the Texas State Capitol before moving to the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum.

This year, two Humble ISD pieces were selected to be a part of the 2023 Texas Youth Art Month exhibition, including Sconzo Early College High School sophomore Hailey Ansay’s  artwork named “Rose” and Kingwood Middle School eighth grader Shelby Kite’s artwork named “Passion”. The students were celebrated at an awards ceremony in Austin on March 12 and their artwork was displayed through March.
