Humble ISD invites families to a Playground Dedication and Open House from 5 to 6 p.m., Friday, April 14, at Elm Grove Elementary School, 2815 Clear Ridge Drive.
Elm Grove Elementary will celebrate its new treehouse-themed playground. The public is invited to a brief dedication ceremony at 5 p.m. on April 14. Students from Elm Grove Elementary will sing a song and perform a percussion piece as a part of the ceremony. The Elm Grove PTA will be providing snow cones.
Elm Grove Elementary is the third Humble ISD campus to debut an updated playground in the 2022-2023 school year. In October, Woodland Hills Elementary opened its fairytale-themed playground and in February, Park Lakes Elementary revealed its new safari-themed playground. Recently, the WHE playground was named one of the 10 Best Inclusive School Playgrounds in America by Soliant.
New or additional playground equipment, with themes focused on imaginative play and learning, are being installed at every elementary school on handicap- accessible, poured-in-place rubber surfaces instead of mulch, over the next six years. Elementary playgrounds at Humble ISD schools are open to the public when school is not in session.
The Elm Grove Elementary larger playground features a treehouse structure with a variety of climbers, slides, activity panels and integrated tree shades. The play space incorporates nature-inspired elements including a custom concrete tree trunk, bear climber, log steppers, and eagle nest. Additional spinners, climbers, and swings surround the main structure extend the fun throughout the entire playspace.
The smaller playground features a variety of nature-inspired elements including a concrete log tunnel, mushroom steppers, and a tree trunk slide. A tree-tops structure incorporates climbers, slides, and integrated shade. The surrounding area features swings, spinners and a symbol communication sign.
The floor surfacing features flowers, leaves, and a fish-filled stream design.
