Class of 2020 to Graduate at Turner Stadium

Humble ISD looks forward to celebrating the Class of 2020 with in-person graduation ceremonies at 8 p.m. July 20-25 at Turner Stadium. The ceremony’s starting time has been updated from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

While in-person graduations are permitted, proms and senior picnics have been cancelled due to COVID-19. Schools will provide information soon on how students can receive refunds on payments toward senior picnics or prom tickets.

Graduation FAQs

Q: How many people can we bring to graduation?
Humble ISD announced on July 13 a reduction of occupancy at graduation to 25 percent to strenghten physical distancing at graduations. The number of tickets to be issued to each graduate will be:

  • KHS - 4
  • KPHS - 6
  • SCHS - 5
  • HHS - 5
  • AHS - 4
  • QECHS -15

Graduates do not need a ticket. The tickets are for family and friends. The tickets will be in each packet that graduates pick up from their schools. The district utilized participating graduate numbers from each school’s Class of 2020 to determine the number of tickets to be distributed..

Q: Will the tickets be for an assigned seat?
Tickets will be for a section of the stadium, and not for a specific seat. Ticket holders will be required to sit in the section of the stadium that matches the color of their ticket. Guests also will be required to enter the gate that matches the color of their ticket. Color-coded tickets and gates are among several measures that will be in place to help space people throughout the stadium for physical distancing.

Q. If we will not use all our tickets, what should we do with extra tickets?
You may give tickets that you do not plan to use to others. Please be advised all tickets are color-coded to a specific section of the stadium. Families with two or more colors of tickets, because they received extra tickets from others, will need to split up and sit in the area associated with the color of the ticket that each person holds.

Q. When will we receive the tickets?
Graduates will pick up packets from their school the week prior to graduation. Schools will communicate dates and times for picking up graduation packets.

Q. Will there be a charge for parking at graduation?
Parking at Turner Stadium is free. Guests will be directed to park in the area associated with the color of their ticket.

Q. Will there be concessions?
There will be no concessions.

Q. What can we bring into the stadium?
Guests are encouraged to bring bottled water and a towel. Each graduate will be provided one bottle of water on the field. Signs, noisemakers, and balloons are not allowed because they interfere with other families hearing their child’s name or seeing their child walk across the stage.

Q. Will there be a dress code for graduates?
Schools will not be requiring graduates to wear specific types of dress clothes, such as collared shirts, this year since the graduation will be outdoors and hot.

Q. Are masks required?
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued an Executive Order: Every person in Texas shall wear a face covering over the nose and mouth when in an outdoor public space wherever it is not feasible to maintain six feet of social distancing from another person not in the same household.

Q. Will graduation be livestreamed?
TexanLive.com generously will provide livestreaming of the graduation ceremonies. Friends and family who want to avoid traveling, heat, or groups can watch online from home for free. The link will be on each high school’s website.

Q. Why is graduation not being held at NRG Stadium?
Humble ISD thoroughly explored holding graduation at NRG Stadium. Turner Stadium was determined to be best for graduation because:

  • The roof would be required to be open and the air-conditioning benefit of NRG is less when the roof is open.
  • Dates and times for all schools’ graduations would need to change to physical distance and sanitize between ceremonies at NRG Stadium. This change would be disruptive to families who have already planned events around graduation.
  • Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo stated that there is the potential for a field hospital to be re-established at NRG. If this occurred, NRG Stadium may not be available for graduations.

Q: How were the graduation dates selected?
The graduation dates follow the previously scheduled order of graduation times that were announced at the beginning of the school year.

Q: What happens if the weather prevents a ceremony from being held?
Any ceremony that cannot occur at 8 p.m. would be rescheduled to 8 a.m. the next day, with the exception of Saturday and Sunday. Any rescheduled graduation ceremony held on Saturday or Sunday will be held at 8 p.m.

We look forward to celebrating our graduates at Turner Stadium!
