Humble ISD celebrated its latest class of retiring employees during a retirement celebration like no other that honored their years of service on July 8.
“The Covid-19 situation forced us to look at another way to celebrate and give special recognition to our retirees,” Rick Gardner, Humble ISD Associate Superintendent of Human Resources, said.
This year, social distancing guidelines transformed the event into a drive-thru celebration outside the Insperity Adaptive Sports Complex near Groves Elementary. In past years, the event included a celebratory dinner at The Overlook.
“The Human Resources team took on the challenge by mapping out the drive thru route, creating decorations, coordinating with Humble ISD Police for traffic control, and monitoring weather conditions,” Gardner said.
To compensate for a planned dinner that was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, retirees received a $50 restaurant gift card to celebrate their milestone. Retirees were also given a clock, a plaque, and a certificate of appreciation during the drive-thru event.
Retirees were greeted along the event route in a socially distanced fashion by Humble ISD Superintendent Dr. Fagen, Humble ISD Trustee Robert Scarfo, and Humble ISD staff members.
This year’s retiree class represents 62 retirees with over 1,500 combined years of service in education.
