“I truly love representing Eagle Springs Elementary and Humble ISD,” Petzold said when asked about receiving the surprise delivery from Whataburger.

In addition to Ms. Petzold’s goodie box, each ESE staff member received a coupon for a free taquito and a free Whataburger.

“Darcy has big ideas and she acts on them,” April Maldonado, ESE Principal, said. “She makes a big difference by encouraging students to embrace differences, ask questions, find answers, and solve their own problems.”

Ms. Maldonado nominated Ms. Petzold based on her accomplishments that include innovative teaching strategies that guide her students to appreciate others and become culturally aware global citizens.

Whataburger’s mission for World Teacher Day was to honor model educators like Ms. Petzold who always put students first.

“It was really important for us to reach out to school districts to identify their standout teachers that we could recognize,” Jill Bays, Brand Development Manager for Whataburger, said. “Ms. Petzold has done amazing things when it comes to her creativity and hard work to ensure the success of her students.”
