Humble ISD celebrated the construction of two new elementary schools with groundbreaking ceremonies on Friday, Oct. 23.
One of the new campuses will be the new Lakeland Elementary, replacing the school’s 60-year old campus. It is the oldest campus in the district.
Humble ISD looks forward to welcoming Lakeland Elementary students to their new home.
“This school not only is a new school, but it’s also a new school that brings building into the learning process,” Dr. Elizabeth Fagen, Superintendent, said.
The new Lakeland Elementary School is designed to serve 950 students and opens in August 2021.
The new Lakeland Elementary is being built at 1134 Rustic Timbers Drive, near Turner Stadium, and completes a district feeder pattern where three feeder schools are within walking distance of each other.
The new campus has incorporated Next Generation learning pods into the design and will feature a blend of airplane, arctic, dinosaur, marine, space, and zoo themes to create a unique learning experience.
Creative features in the new Lakeland Elementary School are designed to inspire children’s curiosity.
“It creates an opportunity for the children to interact with the campus in a way that’s similar to a children’s museum,” Dr. Fagen said. “This school will make children excited to be in their new learning space.”
Lucy Anderson, Humble ISD Elementary Principal of the Year, is the principal of Lakeland Elementary.

On the same day, Humble ISD also held a groundbreaking ceremony for Elementary School #30, which is being built at 14910 Woodland Dawn Trail, in the Fall Creek neighborhood.

The school will help accommodate neighborhood growth in the district’s southern region.
Like the new Lakeland Elementary campus, Elementary School #30 also incorporates Next Generation learning pods in the design.
Next Generation learning pods like this dinosaur-themed layout are a major part of the design at both Elementary School #30 and the new Lakeland Elementary to help excite students about learning.
“We have made the campus part of the learning experience,” Dr. Fagen said. “Students will learn in pods where they will have interactive experiences to support classroom learning.”
Elementary School #30 will be named later this school year.
Paul Edwards, a past associate principal at Summer Creek High School, was selected as the founding principal of Elementary School #30.
Both Elementary School #30 and the new Lakeland Elementary will have a main entry that will feature a multifunctional media space, designed to resemble a tree house, that will set the tone for a play-based learning concept and vision for the school.
“The Humble ISD Community believes that every child should have a quality learning environment,” Dr. Fagen said.
Each campus will be over 123,000 square feet, with enough room to accommodate up to 950 students.
PBK Architects was selected to design both campuses while Manhattan Construction received a contract of $58 million to build both schools. The projects are made possible with funds from Bond 2018.
Both Elementary School #30 and the new Lakeland open in August 2021.
