The 2019-2020 Woodcreek Middle School Chamber Orchestra celebrates its national recognition
The 2019-2020 Woodcreek Middle School Chamber Orchestra celebrates its national recognition as a Commended Winner in the Foundation for Music Education’s Mark of Excellence/National Orchestra Honors Project.

Woodcreek Middle School recently learned that the 2019-2020 WMS Chamber Orchestra has been recognized nationally as a Commended Winner in the Foundation for Music Education’s Mark of Excellence/National Orchestra Honors Project.

Woodcreek was selected among 145 schools from across the country that submitted entries in the competition.

The Mark of Excellence consists of the National Wind Band Honors, National Choral Honors, National Orchestra Honors, National Jazz Honors, and National Percussion Ensemble Honors.

It is a competition, entered by recordings, in which the top quarter are selected as National Winners and the second quarter receive Commended Honors. 

“After working tirelessly, our students have been rewarded with this prestigious honor,” Heather Davis, Director of the Woodcreek Middle School Chamber Orchestra, said. “They truly deserve this award.”

The Foundation for Music Education commended Woodcreek Middle School’s Chamber Orchestra for its talent.

“The Woodcreek Orchestra is a wonderful example of musical achievement, and is a credit to your school district,” Alan Hanna, Executive Director of The Foundation for Music Education, said.

Additionally, Woodcreek Middle student Zachary Houlton was awarded the Outstanding Soloist award for his performance in the recording that earned the award for the Woodcreek Chamber Orchestra.

The Woodcreek Middle School Chamber Orchestra has a reputation for high standards. 

“Our students participating in the chamber orchestra are living up to our school motto of energy, enthusiasm, and encouragement,” Principal Alan Moye said. “We’re proud of all their accomplishments.”

Competition winners are recognized in regional and/or national publications and at national and regional conventions. Each school that enters the competition receives a compilation recording of the winning performances.

The Woodcreek Middle School Chamber Orchestra is led by directors Heather Davis, Pedro Funes, and Justin Fulfer.
