November 15, 2021

Starting Wednesday,  Nov. 17, courses that have been titled “Pre-AP” will be titled “Advanced.” This is due to trademark restrictions imposed by the College Board regarding the Pre-AP term.

There will be no changes to any other components of the courses other than the title. Grading practices, weighted grades for grade point average calculations, teachers, curriculum, and content all remain as they were prior to the name change. The name change applies only to courses that were titled Pre-AP. Courses that were titled AP or Advanced Placement remain titled AP courses.

Parents and students will see the Advanced course name reflected wherever the courses are listed, including in Home Access Center (HAC).

Humble ISD joins districts across Texas in moving away from the Pre-AP title due to the College Board’s trademark. The College Board informed districts to stop using the Pre-AP term by the fall of 2022. Founded in 1900, the College Board is a national organization that operates testing programs including the SAT, PSAT, and Advanced Placement.
