Humble ISD recognized for energy saving measures through CenterPoint energy rebate program
Humble ISD has been recognized once again by CenterPoint Energy for its efforts to help conserve energy through participation in its Commercial Load Management Program. During the Board of Trustees meeting held on December 14, CenterPoint Energy Staff Program Manager, Yolanda Slade, presented Humble ISD with a $188,000 check for its participation.
“Humble ISD is proud to partner with CenterPoint Energy for this program that benefits both the district and the community,” Chris Favors, Humble ISD Director of Energy Management, said.
CenterPoint designed the program to decrease the chances of blackouts and brownouts in the community.
Participation in the program includes turning off major equipment in larger buildings for a short period of time, thus taking “load” off of the grid, allowing the community to carry on with business as usual.
The program is available to non-residential distribution, government, educational institutions, and non-profit customers. The availability period for power curtailments is from June 1 through September 30, from 1-7 p.m. on weekdays. A maximum of six curtailments are allowed each year, with two scheduled curtailments lasting one to three hours each, plus a maximum of four unscheduled curtailments lasting up to four hours each.
“We’re proud of Humble ISD for their conservation efforts and excited to present this rebate payment for their work,” Slade said.
This program operates during the summer months to avoid interfering with regular school days.
In exchange for Humble ISD’s participation, CenterPoint Energy provides incentives to the district to help fund future energy efficient projects. Humble ISD’s participation in the program, which dates to 2012, has resulted in more than $453,000 in incentives paid directly to the district.
