Emma Barron, a senior at Kingwood High School and All-American cheerleader, was selected to perform with other All-American cheerleaders from across the nation at the 80th Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Hawaii.

Varsity Spirit, a branch of the Varsity Brand that is specific to scholastic cheerleading, only selects All-American cheerleaders like Emma to participate in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade. Emma was the only cheerleader from Humble ISD selected to participate.

Emma has earned four Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) All-American cheerleader nominations, two of which she won titles her junior and senior year. She also earned two National Cheerleaders Association All-American cheerleader titles while at Creekwood Middle School.

“After being selected for the All-American team, you are given the opportunity to join several other All-American cheerleaders in their event specific to your age group and grade level,” Emma said. “The Varsity All-Americans were assigned to the Pearl Harbor trip.”

Emma knew she wanted to get involved in cheerleading after moving to Kingwood with her parents in 2008. She participated in scholastic cheer events like the Kingwood High School cheer clinic and joining a cheerleading team at age four. She has been a cheerleader for the past six years in Humble ISD, including two years at Creekwood Middle School and the past four years at Kingwood High School.

“Participating in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade has been a dream of Emma’s since the beginning of her school cheer career,” Misty Barron, Emma’s mom, said. “I’m proud that she not only accomplished a goal that she spent years working towards, but also because she has a deep understanding and respect for our country and our heroes.”

Emma said the best part of the experience was not performing in the parade, but meeting Pearl Harbor survivors. “I am incredibly grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity,” Emma said.

Emma’s cheer sponsors are proud of her.

“Every time Emma has been asked to represent the cheer program for Kingwood High School or Humble ISD in general, she has done it with flying colors,” Van Christman, Kingwood High School Cheer Sponsor and Gymnastics Coach, said.

After graduation, Emma plans to attend Louisiana Tech University in the fall where she plans to study professional piloting. “My mom works for United Airlines, while my dad used to be a pilot,” Emma said. “The end goal is to be a pilot for United Airlines.”

Emma also performed her cheer routine during halftime of the boys’ basketball game between Kingwood High School and Atascocita High School on February 16.
