Twenty-two students were honored as top awardees of the 2022 Humble ISD Rodeo Art Show at the Humble ISD Board of Trustees meeting on March 8.

The Humble ISD Rodeo Art Show had more than 900 entries from students in grades K-12, including 3D work, paintings, drawings, ceramics, fibers and mixed media. Top awards included Best of Show, Gold Medal, and Special Merit. Artwork was assessed by a panel of six experienced art educators. Judges considered originality, creativity, craftsmanship, and western content.

“I am very happy to see our students receive this well deserved recognition for all the hard work they put into their award-winning art projects,” Stacia Gower, Humble ISD Visual Art Coordinator, said. “We value their creativity and artistic abilities.”

Six pieces out of the over 900 entries were selected by the Humble Foundation Auction Committee to advance to the Gala Auction in April. Students will directly benefit from the auction proceeds of their artwork.

Alice Hollenbeck, a sophomore at Kingwood High School, was a Special Merit winner for her artwork titled “Beefcake.” “After participating in a competition several years ago, my art teacher encouraged me to enter this year,” Hollenbeck said. “I saw improvement in my work this time and it has inspired me to keep going.”

Rylan Clover, who won a gold medal for her work titled “Mutton Buster,” said she was inspired from her experience attending the rodeo with her family. “The picture I created is actually based on a photo of me when I participated in mutton busting,” Clover said. “This is one of my fondest memories about the rodeo, which my family would attend yearly.”

Art teachers like Tom Cieciorka of Timberwood Middle School are proud of the accomplishment of their students. “There’s nothing better than the feeling of seeing your work pay off as a teacher when your students are honored for their work in the classroom,” Mr. Cieciorka said. “Pushing my students to achieve their goals really makes me want to take teaching art to the next level.”

A total of 12 elementary art pieces were selected and photographed for card sets that will be sold at the Humble ISD Spirit Store, which is located inside the district’s administration building at 10203 Birchridge Drive, Humble, TX, 77338.
