Humble ISD invites families to a Playground Dedication and Open House from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, at Woodland Hills Elementary School, 2222 Tree Lane.
Woodland Hills Elementary School is the first of 30 elementary schools in Humble ISD that will be receiving playground upgrades. New or additional playground equipment, with themes focused on imaginative play and learning, are being installed at every campus on handicapped- accessible, poured-in-place rubber surfaces instead of mulch, over the next seven years.
Elementary playgrounds at Humble ISD schools are open to the public when school is not in session. The new Woodland Hills Elementary School playground has a fairy tale theme. Equipment includes: a dragon that children can climb, and castle-themed structures with slides, a climbing web, fireman’s poles and ladders. There are also spinning pieces to climb in and spin, swings, overhead climbers, and sway pods. The handicapped-accessible flooring features depictions of fish, alligator, lily pads, flowers, a frog, and turtle. There are also knight and princess character cut-outs where children can place their face in place of the characters’ faces. There are two new playground areas on the campus: one area is designed for older children, and one area is designed for younger children.
The public is invited to a brief dedication ceremony at 5 p.m. Oct. 25. After the ceremony, children can play until 6 p.m. Parking is available at Woodland Hills Elementary School. Additionally, Kingwood First Baptist Church, 3500 Woodland Hills Drive, will allow families to park in the church parking lot for the playground event. Tacos Y Gorditas Rioverde and Kona Ice food trucks are scheduled to be on site for the public event.
