Carly Ahrens is heading to her fourth-straight UIL State Cross Country Meet this weekend along with her Regional Champion Kingwood High School teammates.
Ahrens led the pack at the Region III-6A Championship, finishing second overall with a time of 18:20.10. Teammates Jenna Carter placed seventh (19:06.60), while Anastasia Small (19.21.90), Clara Dye (19:42.30) and Eliana Contreras (19:44.20) placed 10th, 11th and 12th overall, respectively.
Kingwood finished first overall as a team with 42 points, beating out Stratford by 48 points and were the only school with all five runners in the Top 15. This marks the second-straight Region III-6A Championship for the girls and fourth in the last six seasons.
The Mustangs won’t be alone at the UIL State Cross Country Meet this weekend in Round Rock.
The Atascocita boys cross country team also qualified finishing second overall as a team with 75 points. The Eagles finished with four runners in the Top 20. The group was led by Michael Archie, who took third overall with a time of 15:55.20. Teammate Oliver Maldonado placed ninth overall (16:06.90).
Atascocita junior Summer Call is the lone girl for the Eagles advancing to state after placing sixth at the Region III-6A Championship, posting a time of 18:56.90.

Kingwood Park will be sending both its boys and girls teams to the State Cross Country Meet. Both teams placed fourth overall as teams to punch their ticket. Elijah Merino led the boys team with an eighth place finish (18:02.94), while Elina Bailey (21:13.82) and Lucy Foltz (21:24.74) led the girls squad with seventh and ninth place finishes, respectively.
The 2022 UIL State Cross Country Meet is set for Friday November 4, 2022 and Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock, Texas.
Kingwood and Atascocita athletes will compete on Friday with the girls racing at 10 a.m. and the boys at 10:40 a.m. Kingwood Park athletes will race on Saturday with the girls racing at 10 a.m. and the boys at 10:40 a.m.
