Humble ISD students were amongst the group that included 83 schools from across the Houston area to take part in the First Tee of Greater Houston Champions Challenge in March.
On March 25, Humble ISD students partnered with other students from the Greater Houston area on teams that are named after PGA and LPGA pros. Humble ISD fourth graders have participated in this event for the past 15 years.
“Experiences are our greatest teachers,” Humble ISD Coordinator of Physical Education/Wellness K-12 Helen Wagner said. “Champion's Challenge is a kids' golf tournament run pro style. This event gives students the opportunity to make new friends, increase their enjoyment of the game, and possibly become players of the game of golf as a lifetime sport.
“At the end of the day, the students feel a great sense of accomplishment, pride, and success as they represent their campus and district.”
At the end of the event, Carli Wright (Bear Branch Elementary), Elijah Showalter (Maplebrook Elementary) and Olivia Fetzer (Groves Elementary) earned first place ribbons for their individual performances.
In the team competition, members of Ridge Creek Elementary and Autumn Creek Elementary teamed up with another school district to take home first place.
