On a course that they have played on too many times to count, the Kingwood High School girls varsity golf team gathered with family and dignitaries on Wednesday, May 24, to celebrate their recent accomplishment at the UIL Class 6A State Golf Tournament.

Kingwood, which is coached by Susan Willis, finished second overall in the two-day tournament, earning them the title of 2023 Class 6A State Runner-Up. It is their best finish since 1996.

With their silver medals draped around their necks, Bella Flores, Morgan Ankenbrandt, Kate Hartnett, Khloe Jones, and Mariana Hernandez were honored at the Clubs of Kingwood in a special ceremony.

Proclamations stating that May 24, 2023 would be known as Kingwood Varsity Girls Golf Team Day were read by the City of Humble Mayor Pro Tem David Pierce, who invited the team to be honored at the City of Humble City Council Meeting on May 25 as well.

Then Kingwood High School Principal Dr. Michael Nasra read proclamations by the City of Houston from Mayor Sylvester Turner and City of Houston District E from Mayor Pro Tem Dave Martin.

Kingwood won the Region III-6A Championship for a second-straight year back in April, which punched its ticket to the UIL State Golf Tournament.
