Groves Elementary Librarian Susan Mitchell was named the Region 4 Elementary Teacher of the Year on Tuesday, August 1.
Mitchell was one of six finalists for the Region 4 Elementary Teacher of the Year Award.
"I'm so proud and I'm proud for Humble ISD that they're getting recognition because it's such a great district to be a part of," Mitchell said after winning the award. "I'm so excited about it. This is a great region with great teachers in it and I'm looking forward to representing us."
Mitchell moves on to the Texas Association of School Administrators Texas Teacher of the Year competition as a representative of Region 4. The winner will be announced on October 20, 2023 during an awards ceremony at Kalahari Resort & Convention Center.
In 2019, Humble ISD teacher Joe Paneitz was named the Region 4 Secondary Teacher of the Year.
A total of 92 teachers across Region 4, which comprises of more than 76,000 teachers were honored during the 34th Region 4 Teacher of the Year Luncheon at the Hilton Americas-Houston.
