Humble ISD receives grant from Texas PTA, TCEQ for alternative-fuel bus purchase

Humble ISD has two new alternative fueled school buses in its fleet for the 2023-2024 school year after being awarded a grant as a part of the Texas Natural Gas Foundation’s Supplemental Environmental Projects program.

The district now has 49 propane-powered buses, which accounts for 1/3 of the Humble ISD daily route buses, which now run on propane.

In conjunction with the Texas PTA and the Texas Natural Gas Foundation, the grant, which was awarded in June of 2021, was used by the district to purchase two propane-powered buses to replace two older diesel-powered school buses that fell short of modern emission standards.

The Texas PTA provided $218,000 and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality approved the American Energy Institute to cover $61,435 of two new propane buses. The funds covered 90% of the purchase of the propane buses.

Texas PTA Director At Large Adrian Hicks and Dominique Harvey and Texas PTA Vice President Membership Georgia Strickland and were on hand at the Tuesday, October 17, 2023, Humble ISD School Board of Trustees meeting to present a check for the reimbursement funds to the district for the bus purchases.
