Humble ISD officials broke ground on what will be the district’s 11th middle school, Lake Houston Middle School, on Monday, April 22, during a brief ceremony.
Humble ISD Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Fagen welcomed everyone and gave a brief background on the new campus.
“We’re really excited to have this campus as our final middle school in Humble ISD and are very excited about the design,” Dr. Fagen said. “We think it will be a state-of-the-art design, just like many of our other campuses, that is a pride in our community-one that enhances home values and drives folks to our community.”
PBK designed Lake Houston Middle School, which is located next to Centennial Elementary School. Satterfield & Pontikes Construction is building the new $80.8 million campus. When complete it will give Humble ISD a 213,000 square foot campus that sits on a 61-acre lot and is designed for 1,100 students.
The campus has a design that will be unique to other middle school campuses in the district. Integral to the school’s design are modern safety features, technology, and natural light. The building features three stories with one grade housed on each level: sixth grade on the first floor, seventh grade on the second, and eighth grade on the third. Each floor has an outdoor learning area. There are a variety of seating areas to accommodate collaboration and project-based learning. The school includes a cafeteria, performing arts theater, library, career and technical education area, and athletics wing. The athletics wing will include two gyms, locker rooms and weight room. Lake Houston Middle School is the first campus to have a dance room in the initial design.
School colors are black and gold, with light blue and gray accents. Gold was chosen because the students will feed into Summer Creek High School, which has gold as one of its colors. There are no other middle schools in Humble ISD with black and gold as their school colors.
Lake Houston Middle School is slated to open for the 2025-2026 school year and serve students residing in neighborhoods that are currently zoned to Autumn Ridge, West Lake, and potentially Woodcreek Middle School.
