Dr. Bonnie Longnion Multipurpose Room

Humble ISD Trustees voted unanimously to name the future Elm Grove Elementary School multipurpose room after former long-time School Board member Dr. Bonnie Longnion. Humble ISD is building elementary school multipurpose rooms for elementary campuses that do not have a gym. This will make them comparable to the newer elementary campuses by providing a place for indoor PE and school assemblies. The Dr. Bonnie Longnion Multipurpose Room is projected to open near the end of the fall semester and a dedication ceremony will be held.

Dr. Longnion served on the Humble ISD School Board from 1988 through 2013, including four times as School Board President (1993, 1999, 2006, 2001). She also provided statewide recognition for Humble ISD by being elected President of the Texas Association of Schools Boards (TASB) for 2003.

Dr. Longnion, a retired college administrator from the Lone Star College system, provided leadership as the district grew. There were 17,500 students when she joined the School Board. In 2024, there are more than 49,000 students enrolled in Humble ISD.

School Board member Chris Parker, during the May 14, 2024, meeting when the School Board voted to name the new building, explained why Elm Grove was chosen for the name. “Her children went to Elm Grove, she lived in Elm Grove and she had a passion for Elm Grove Elementary,” Mrs. Parker said.

Dr. Roger Brown, Acting Superintendent, noted additional community involvement. “She served on the School Board a long time, but she is also a great Rotarian. She’s in the Lake Houston Rotary Club. She’s given back to this community for years, and her service has been invaluable,” Dr. Brown said.

Board Member Martina Lemond Dixon said, “Dr. Longnion is truly an amazing person and I feel that it is an honor to be honoring her today.”

Board Member Robert Sitton said, “This is well deserved. I served with Bonnie for many years. She has a servant heart.”
