Mike “Mac” McEachern has been named Athletics Director for Humble ISD. His first day will be July 1. McEachern brings 18 years of experience as a district Athletics Director. He has been the Athletics Director for Pflugerville ISD from 2022 to the present and was the Athletics Director for Huffman ISD from 2006 to 2022.
A 20-member selection committee made the recommendation to hire McEachern. The selection committee was composed of Humble ISD middle school and high school athletics coordinators, athletics trainers, campus principals, and assistant superintendents. Committee members noted that McEachern brings experience as an Athletics Director from a large district and has a passion and energy that is contagious. Pflugerville ISD has four high schools and seven middle schools. The Humble ISD Board of Trustees approved McEachern’s selection at a special board meeting on June 21, 2024.
“I have lived in Humble ISD for 21 years, and I love seeing the success of Humble ISD athletics across the board, for all the schools,” McEachern said.
A resident of Atascocita, McEachern has been spending school days in Pflugerville and coming home on weekends when possible to be with his wife Paige, who is an elementary principal in Huffman ISD. They have two daughters - one of whom is a head high school softball coach in Belton, and the other is in advertising with ProMaxima.
McEachern’s coaching accomplishments include taking the Huffman-Hargrave Falcons’ varsity football team to postseason play 16 times, including 13 when McEachern served as head football coach.
McEachern has 32 years of experience in public education. He has coached football, baseball, track and softball. His awards include Crosby/Huffman Chamber of Commerce Employee of the Year 2021, District 11-4A Coach of the Year 2019, Southeast Texas Coaches Association Coach of the Year 2019, and Life Changer of the Year 2015 by National Life Group for a mentorship program he created. McEachern earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas Wesleyan University and his master’s degree from Lamar University.
“Comprehensive athletic programs that cater to a diverse range of sports and skill levels lead to not only improved team performance, but contribute to the holistic development of student athletes on and off the field,” McEachern said. “I am particularly excited about the opportunity to collaborate with the school district administration, campus principals, coaches and staff to ensure our students are receiving the highest level of support and opportunities for growth and success.”
