Humble ISD is well represented in the final standings of the 2023-2024 UIL Lone Star Cup, which were released on July 1, as Kingwood, Atascocita and Summer Creek High Schools finished in the Top 25 of the Class 6A standings.
There are 249 Class 6A schools in Texas that compete in the UIL Lone Star Cup.
The UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 school year and recognizes high schools based on their overall team achievement in a variety of sanctioned academic, athletic and music championships.
Team tennis, cross country, marching band, military marching band, volleyball, Robotics BEST, football, congress, swimming and diving, wrestling, mariachi, film, basketball, Robotics FIRST, soccer, academics, one-act play, theatrical design, track and field, golf, tennis, softball and baseball performances are all accounted in the scoring.
Kingwood finished with 58 points and tied for 17th overall. The Mustangs softball team reached the UIL State Softball Tournament for the first time since 2013. Kingwood’s deep playoff run collected 14 points.
Kingwood’s boys soccer team also reached the Regional Semifinals, which collected 10 points. Girls soccer, baseball, team tennis, military marching band, girls cross country, volleyball, girls golf, girls and boys swimming and diving, spirit and robotics also earned points for the Mustangs.
Atascocita racked up 57 points to finish tied for 19th overall. The Eagles boys track and field team made history in 2024 winning the program’s first-ever state championship. The accomplishment amassed 10 points in the UIL Lone Star Cup standings.
Atascocita football and volleyball both pieced together deep playoff runs, each reaching the Regional Quarterfinals. Each team earned eight points apiece in the scoring. The Eagles also compiled points from baseball, softball, girls soccer, boys and girls basketball, spirit, military marching band and team tennis.
Summer Creek concluded the year with 56 points and in 21st place overall. The Bulldogs football team reached the UIL State Football Championship game for the first time in program history and the first football team in Humble ISD’s 105-year history to do so. Their run captured 12 points. The Summer Creek girls basketball team reached the UIL State Tournament for the third time since 2019 this season and received 14 points.
The Bulldogs also picked up points from team tennis, volleyball, spirit, boys and girls soccer, girls track and field, softball, baseball and district academic champions.
