All Humble ISD elementary, middle and high school students may eat breakfast free of charge at all campuses during the 2024-2025 school year.
For students to receive a free breakfast, they must select a breakfast that meets the reimbursable meal requirements determined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The USDA requires that at least four food items from the following three categories are offered at breakfast: 1. Fruit, vegetable and/or juice 2.) grain and/or protein 3.) milk. For a breakfast meal to be reimbursable, students must select at least three items, one of which must be a fruit or fruit juice.
Students do not have to pick from every group but must pick from the fruit/vegetable/juice group. Humble ISD complies with USDA’s Offer versus Serve (OVS) provision in the School Breakfast Program, which allows students to decline some of the food options offered. The goal of Offer versus Serve is to reduce food waste in the school meal programs by allowing students to decline foods they do not intend to eat. However, a serving of fruit or fruit juice -- in addition to two other items -- is required for the meal to be reimbursable.
Most breakfast entrees contain enough whole grains to count as two items. Milk is offered because it provides calcium & vitamin D. However, students are not required to select milk for a breakfast meal to be reimbursable.
Here are some breakfast examples that students can choose for free during the school year:

Students are not required to select an entree item as long as they select at least three items, including one serving of fruit/fruit juice.
What if the student selects more than one carton of milk, more than one juice, or more than one entree?
The free breakfast can include one milk, one juice and one entree. If a student picks up a second milk, a second juice, and/or a second entree, those items will be charged at the a la carte price.
What if my child has a life-threatening food allergy or a dietary restriction?
Parents/guardians with students who have a life threatening food allergy or disability requiring a diet modification should fill out the Child Nutrition Medical Statement Form, which is located on the Child Nutrition Website. The Child Nutrition Medical Statement must be completed by a licensed physician who can write prescriptions in Texas, such as a medical doctor, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner.
The completed statement can be submitted by the physician’s office or by the parent/guardian by email at child.nutrition@humbleisd.net, faxed to 281-641-1072, or submitted in-person at the main child nutrition building, 1705 Wilson Road, Building D, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday during the school year.
Once the form is approved by Humble ISD’s registered dietician, cafeteria staff from your child’s campus will receive an alert on the register screen during the meal service regarding your child’s allergy or dietary restriction.
What if I have a question about a charge on my student’s account?
