Families are invited to a free, engaging, outdoor Veterans Day program called Work Out With a Vet. Work Out With a Vet will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, on the football field at Atascocita High School, 13300 Will Clayton Parkway.
Updated Information:
About an hour before the program begins, an Army helicopter will land on the Atascocita High School practice football field. Once the landing has been completed, children of all ages and adults can approach the helicopter to explore it, take photos and interact with the crew. The helicopter will be available for visits until noon.
At 10 a.m., there will be an interactive Veterans Day Program on the main Atascocita High School football field.
Girls and boys in middle school, high school, and adults, are invited to be on the field to participate in a workout led by AHS Marine Corps JROTC. Athletic pants are the recommended attire to protect knees when on the field. The workout includes group exercise followed by the opportunity to participate in combat field testing that has been modified for different ages and fitness levels.
Special guest speaker will be U.S. Navy SEAL Veteran Congressman Dan Crenshaw.
Bleacher seating is available for families to sit and watch. The program is open to the public and is free. No tickets required.
After the field workout, those ages 13 and older are invited to try out the newly-built obstacle fitness course. JROTC cadets will be stationed at each piece of equipment to explain steps.
This is a great opportunity for students to learn about JROTC at Atascocita, Humble, Kingwood, Kingwood Park and Summer Creek high schools. There is no requirement to enlist in the military following high school to participate in a JROTC program. JROTC is a PE credit. The purpose of the program is to instill the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment.
