The Humble ISD Board of Trustees named Dr. Roger Brown as Lone Finalist for the position of Superintendent during a special School Board meeting on Dec. 17, 2024. Dr. Brown has been serving as Acting Superintendent since May 14, 2024, and as Interim Superintendent since Nov. 26, 2024. He has been an administrator in Humble ISD for 10 years.
Dr. Brown’s educational career began in 1984 as a high school history teacher in Oklahoma, where he advanced through multiple roles including assistant principal, middle school principal, director of secondary education and assistant superintendent. After raising their family, Dr. Brown and his wife wanted to live closer to their adult children and grandchildren in Texas. That opportunity arose in 2014 when former Humble ISD Superintendent Dr. Guy Sconzo chose Dr. Brown to be Humble ISD’s Associate Superintendent for Support Services. In this capacity, Dr. Brown oversaw facilities construction, child nutrition services, school bus services and building maintenance. Three years later, he was promoted to Deputy Superintendent.
“Dr. Brown can be seen out and about in the community on campuses,” School Board President Chris Parker said. Dr. Brown’s “understanding of the various elements that contribute to students’ education, and the role of schools in enhancing a community’s quality of life, is exceptional,” she said.
Beyond his administrative role, Dr. Brown actively participates in local organizations, serving as President of Lake Houston Rotary, a member of the Northeast Hospital Authority Board and on the Partnership Lake Houston Executive Board.
Dr. Brown earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree at the University of Oklahoma and his doctor of educational leadership at Nova Southeastern University. His awards include Teacher of the Year for Moore Central Mid-High, Highland East Junior High Administrator of the Year, PTA Putnam City Administrator of the Year, and State PTA School Administrator of the Year in Oklahoma.
Dr. Brown and his wife Lonia, a retired school counselor and elementary principal, have been married for 42 years. They have three adult children, six grandchildren, and are expecting their seventh grandchild in February. Four of their grandchildren are current Humble ISD students.
“I’m vested in this school district. This is home,” Dr. Brown said.
Dr. Brown said it was a blessing and a pleasure to work in Humble ISD, and he is honored to have been named Lone Finalist.
“To be given this opportunity, I want you to know, I do not take this lightly,” he said. “We will continue to work hard and we will continue to work together.”
Texas law requires a 21-day waiting period following the Lone Finalist announcement before the Superintendent can be officially appointed.
“Everyone at Humble ISD -- teachers, administrators, staff and the community -- deserves certainty and stability. After navigating this challenging period, we are poised to stabilize our direction under Dr. Brown’s remarkable leadership,” Mrs. Parker said.
