The Humble ISD School Board approved the recommendation of the Athletic Recognition Committee and the Board Building & Planning Committee to rename the Kingwood High School Natatorium and Swim Room in honor of former swim coaches Lanny Landtroop and Russell Duin for their contributions to the Kingwood High School Swimming and Diving Program at the December Board Meeting.
The Lanny Landtroop Natatorium is named in honor of Coach Landtroop, who guided the program to 25 District Championships, 20-plus Regional Championships, six State Championships and three national titles.
Landtroop earned the State Coach of the Year eight times in his career and produced 143 All-American swimmers. In 2010, Landtroop was inducted into the Texas Swimming Hall of Fame. Landtroop served as the President of the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches and then the President of the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association from 2007-2009. He earned the NISCA Outstanding Service Award in 1995 and was inducted into the NISCA Hall of Fame in 2001. Other accolades include the David H. Robertson Excellence in Coaching Award and being a 2004 Collegiate - Scholastic Trophy Recipient.
The Russell Duin Suite is named in honor of Coach Duin who helped guide the Kingwood Swimming and Diving Program to 21 District Championships, 17 Regional Championships, five State Championships and one national title.
Duin earned the State Coach of the Year honor six times in his career and coached 159 All-American Swimmers and Divers.
