Angela Bland and Michael Curl have been named Humble ISD’s Elementary and Secondary Principals of the Year, respectively, for the 2024-2025 school year.
Both principals were nominated by their peers for demonstrating exceptional leadership in their roles.
Bland is in her fourth year as principal of Groves Elementary and brings more than 20 years of experience in education. She began her teaching career in 2002 and joined Humble ISD in 2006. She taught at Lakeland and Humble elementary schools from 2006 to 2011 before serving as an instructional coach for grades K-5 at Humble Elementary from 2011 to 2018. Bland then became the assistant principal of Fall Creek Elementary from 2018 to 2021 before taking on her current role at Groves Elementary.
“Mrs. Bland’s dedication to student learning goes beyond vision—she masters the ‘how’ by building a team of passionate educators who create a thriving school culture,” said Christy Erb, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools.
Curl has 22 years of experience in education. He joined Humble ISD in 2019 after serving in Goose Creek ISD as a high school assistant principal at Ross S. Sterling High School and as principal of Cedar Bayou Junior School. He also served as a social studies teacher and team leader in Fort Bend ISD.
“Mr. Curl is an exceptional leader,” said Donnie Bodron, Assistant Superintendent of Middle Schools. “He is always looking to improve his craft and has developed a culture at Kingwood Middle School that prioritizes a safe and inviting environment for students and staff. Mr. Curl has received numerous accolades and is truly deserving of this recognition.”
Bland and Curl will be honored at a Region 4 Education Service Center Principal Recognition Ceremony.
