Core Values
We believe extracurricular activities enrich our students and are vital for individual and school identity.
We believe students learn best in a positive, consistent and safe environment.
We believe all students can learn and have the opportunity to be successful.
Accountability, responsibility, and professional communication are essential to the success of our community.
We believe high expectations and academic rigor prepare students to be career and college ready.
We strive to build relationships with all stakeholders based on mutual respect, tolerance, and unity.
We believe diversity and creativity are an integral and necessary part of our campus culture.
We believe that every student is entitled to a teacher who is the best we can hire for that position and is chosen solely on merit.
We believe the rules and policies we adopt must ultimately benefit students over adults.
*All of these are numbered with a 1 because no one value is more important than any other value.
Grading & Late Work Policy
Policies are subject to change. The most updated Grading & late work policy is on this Google Doc.
Atascocita High School's grading guidelines align with those in the current Humble ISD Student Handbook.
Grading Scale:
90-100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
0-69 Failing
Grade Determination:
At Atascocita High School, grades are a combination of grading period summative assessments (tests, quizzes) and formative assessments (class projects, classroom participation, daily work, homework, notebooks, reports), quality of work, and promptness in fulfilling assignments
Academic Dishonesty:
Cheating on an assignment or test may result in a zero being recorded for either assessment type. Additionally, cheating is considered a conduct violation and is subject to additional disciplinary measures, as discussed in the Student Code of Conduct.
Late Work
Assignments and tests must be completed and turned in on the assigned date to receive full credit unless the student has been absent.
Late work on summative projects, major papers and essays, major labs, and formative assessments will result in a maximum of 20 points per day being deducted.
Reassessing Groups
An entire class or group will be re-taught and reassessed when the teacher determines that 50% or more of the class has failed to perform at mastery level (70%). The higher of the two grades will be recorded for each class member, and these guidelines do not apply to final exams.
Reassessment Individual
Students in on-level and advanced academic courses will be allowed to reassess ONE summative assignment per 9-week grading period per subject in which they have earned less than 70% on the assignment. The reassessment criteria include:
A student must schedule the reassessment within one calendar week from when the original graded assessment is returned. The teacher and student must determine the best manner and most appropriate time to reassess. Students are strongly encouraged to attend tutoring before reassessment.
The student will receive the higher of the two grades earned with a maximum reassessment score of 70%.
Reassessments are not given in Advanced Placement, OnRamps, and Dual Credit courses.
Assignments in in-school suspension or discipline programs are given a predetermined date, and no extra days are provided for makeup work.
Make Up Work
Students are expected to make up missed work while absent promptly and within the guidelines outlined in the Humble ISD Parent/Student Handbook. If students know of an absence, they are encouraged to inform their teachers beforehand and make arrangements.
Immediately upon returning to school, a student will be responsible for obtaining and completing the makeup work satisfactorily and within the time specified by the teacher. A student who does not make-up assigned work within the time allotted by the teacher will receive a grade of zero for the assignment.
If a student is absent for three or more days, the parent/guardian may request make-up work through the student’s House Office while the student is out.
The following is a timeline for the completion of make-up work.
one-day absence: work is due the day following the student’s return to school
two-day absence: work is due two days after the student’s return to school
three-day absence: work is due three days after the student's return to school
four-day absence: work is due four days after the student’s return to school
five-day absence: work is due five days after the student’s return to school
Students absent more than five days must make arrangements with teachers to make up the work missed within one week (5 school days) after their return to school.
If students are absent on a predetermined due date, the assignment is due on the day they return to school.
Late work guidelines apply to make-up work
