One-by-one, Humble ISD students and their prize-winning animals took to the stage inside the Humble Civic Center.
An auctioneer bellowed through a microphone as bids went higher and higher. Standing with a smile, the students saw the fruition of their hard work as they were awarded with money for either furthering their education or putting it towards another animal for next year’s show.
By the end of the day, a whopping $340,756 was raised, smashing the number from last year’s show, which totaled $284,450. In 2022, the auction raised $316,100, in 2021 it totaled $259,850 and in 2020 racked up $334,450.01.
The Grand Champion Steer, raised and shown by Kingwood Park’s Faith Combs, netted the biggest take home at $32,500, purchased by Bruce & Kathy Davidson.
Summer Creek High School’s Camryn Hubbard showed the Grand Champion Swine and took home $9,500 (bought by JG Civil); Atascocita’s Delaney Owen’s Grand Champion Lamb sold for $6,500 (Northeast Hospital); and Woodcreek Middle School’s Abigail Grohn (4-H) showed the Grand Champion Goat and netted $6,500 (Blakelock Financial).
Kingwood Park’s Bailey Hornback’s Grand Champion Turkey auctioned for $6,000 (Humble Machine Works); Kingwood Park’s Cameron Spangler’s Grand Champion Broilers sold for $3,500 (Rosewood and Carr Attorney); and the Grand Champion Rabbit shown by Atascocita’s Sofia Loredo was bought for $4,000 (Rosewood, Mike’s Hobby Shop, Carr Attorney).
