April is School Library Month

April is School Library Month, and Centennial Elementary applauds the indispensable work of school librarians who collaborate with teachers daily to support classroom activities.

Parents, staff, and students are encouraged to participate in activities throughout the month that celebrate the library - and to thank librarians who do so much to support their communities!

School Library Month is the American Association of School Librarians' celebration of school librarians and school libraries. Every April school librarians are encouraged to host activities to help their school and local community celebrate the essential role that strong school libraries play in transforming learning. The AASL efforts for a national School Library Month were spearheaded by Lucille Thomas, chair of the School Library Media Month Committee. Thomas was appointed by President Judy King in 1983. Their work came to fruition on April 1, 1985, when AASL officials, local and national dignitaries got the first School Library Month off to a rousing start with a ceremony on the west steps of the U.S. Capitol. We recognize the value of additional support in our library. If you have some extra time to spare, we invite you to consider volunteering to assist Mrs. Wilson, our librarian. She handles a high volume of tasks each day, including checking out approximately 300 books and shelving and reorganizing an additional 300 books. Your assistance in the library would be greatly appreciated.
