All About Foster Elementary 2023-2024

Annual Fund: The Foster Elementary Annual Fund campaign funds campus priorities and initiatives that fall outside of the district’s budget.  Your investment in Foster Elementary is appreciated and helps support our common goal of excellence for our students.  Any contribution large or small is greatly appreciated! More information can be found on our campus website and you can donate via our school website or by texting FEBulldogs to 41444.

Attendance Policy and Absences: If your child is absent you can report and excuse it in 1 of 3 ways: call the Attendance line at 281-641-1419 , email the registrar at Karen.Drew@humbleisd.net, or submit the online:Report An Absence Link (the form can also be found on our website).  Upon your child’s return to school, please write a note stating the reason for the absence (ill, out of town, etc.). If your child has an appointment with a healthcare professional during the school day, he/she will not be counted absent IF you return with a note from the health care professional.  Students not in attendance at 10:00 AM will be marked absent. They will be marked tardy if they arrive after 8:00 AM. School attendance has a huge impact on academic performance.  For more specific information about attendance policy, please consult the Humble ISD handbook.

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures:

ARRIVAL: The morning bell rings at 7:55 and the tardy bell rings at 8:00.  Students are not allowed in the building prior to 7:30 as there is no supervision and it would be unsafe. Bus riders will arrive in the front driveway and car riders will drop off in the North driveway. The car rider line closes at 7:55 so if a car rider arrives at 7:55 or later please drop them off at the front entrance.

DISMISSAL:  Car riders & daycare will dismiss at 3:15. Walkers and bikers will be dismissed at 3:17 p.m.  Bus riders will be dismissed at 3:20. Dismissing car riders will be at the North circle drive.  If you are picking up in a car, please make sure you have your car rider sign filled in with your child’s name and grade. This makes dismissal go so smoothly. Walkers will exit by the pavilion and bikers will be dismissed at the bike racks.  Please no transportation changes after 2:45. If you do change the dismissal method please call the front office AND email the teacher.

Birthday: If parents of elementary school students wish to provide a treat for their child’s homeroom to commemorate the child’s birthday, treats can be brought to school.  Please follow each grade levels’ guidelines, and remember no balloons or flowers.

Invitations to parties held outside of school, or events hosted or sponsored by parents, cannot be distributed at school (district policy).

Bulldog Bulletin:  One of the ways we communicate with parents is through our “Bulldog Bulletin” which is emailed every Tuesday. Please watch for it and read it thoroughly as it has useful school information.

Eating Lunch With Your Child: Lunch visitors will not be allowed until Sept. 6th to allow time for students to get into a good routine. Please bring your driver’s license and check in as a visitor at the front office to get a badge before going to the cafeteria. You must return the visitor badge before you leave.

First Days of School: A parent may escort their child to their classroom on Aug., 9, 10, 11th. After that staff will assist in escorting the children as needed. We’re creating independence in our Bulldogs so we use the gradual release method.

Foster Fight Song: We are the Bulldogs of Foster Elementary, we want the world to see: We work together; we learn together. We are the Bulldogs of Foster Elementary. GO BULLDOGS!

Full Day Release Days: No school for students due to being a staff workday: Sept. 18,  Nov. 1,  Nov. 7, Jan.  2, Feb. 12,  March 18

Going Home Early: Remember, compulsory attendance laws state a child shall attend school for the entire period the program of instruction is provided; therefore,  if you plan to check your child out of school early for an unavoidable reason, please send a note to your child’s teacher.  When it is time to pick up your child early, sign your child out in the front office, a driver's license is required, and the office will call to get your child. Please refrain from checking your child out after 2:30 p.m. as this causes undue hardship in the office.

HAC:  The Home Access Center (HAC) provides parents and guardians with an online portal to access their student’s attendance, registration information, progress reports and report cards. The link can be found on our website. All returning students must complete an Annual Update each year in their HAC account.

Ice Cream: Yum! The cafeteria sells ice cream during your child’s lunch. *You may set restrictions in your child’s SchoolCafe account.

Students can not be at school with live lice, pink eye, or vomiting the morning of class. Adults are required to drop off and pick up ALL medicine through the front office (nurse). All medication will need a signed doctor's order to be administered by the nurse. As needed medications such as cough drops, Tylenol, Ibuprofen and Lactaid only need an order signed by the parent. The nurse has this paperwork in her office. Students may not bring medicine in their backpack.

Parties: Students in Pre-K- Second grade will have 3 parties per year = Winter Holiday, Friendship & Spring. Students in Third- Fifth grade will have two parties = Winter & Friendship. Parties are organized through the homeroom parents in conjunction with the grade level team.

Portrait of  a Graduate: 6 Portrait of a Graduate competencies: Global Citizen, Communicator, Personally Responsible, Creative Innovator, Leader & Collaborator, and Critical Thinker. The Humble ISD vision is that these 6 competencies become a part of learning experiences for students from Pre-K through graduation so that students are truly college, career, and life ready.

PTA: PTA’s support has enabled Foster to purchase materials for the classrooms, provide programs, in addition to providing us with countless hours of volunteer help. Get involved with your child’s school...join PTA today! One way to join-go to www.joinpta.org and select "Humble" from the District drop down menu and then "Foster" from the PTA drop down.

Rainy Day Dismissal:   In the event of heavy rain, lightning, and/or thunder, all bikers and walkers will go to their normal dismissal areas to see if parents are waiting.  Once that is complete the remaining students are taken to the grade level car rider area for pick up.  The school will communicate via text and email when we are having a rainy day dismissal.

Report CardsReport cards can be found in your HAC account. In Pre-Kindergarten -2nd grade, rubrics are used instead of numerical grades.

Volunteering: Whether chairing a PTA subcommittee or taking home a project, your support of our children is greatly appreciated! The application can be found on the Humble ISD website or you can complete it here: Humble ISD Volunteer/Chaperone Annual Application

Visiting the Building: Safety is a priority at Foster!  Every visitor to Foster will have their driver’s license scanned into our monitoring system.  This system informs us if there is any reason that a visitor should not be on our campus.  It will print out a badge that includes the visitor’s name and picture. When the visitor leaves the building, their badge must be returned to the front office so we will have a record of when they left the building. Once a license has been scanned one time after that initial scan it won’t take that much time every visit thereafter, but you still must  come prepared with your license for every visit.

Visitors should only enter and exit through the front exterior door. Visitors should not enter the building through any other door. Visitors should not open an exterior door for anyone.

If a visitor does not have the visitor’s badge on in a visible place a staff member will inquire. All people in our building must be wearing either a Humble ISD badge or a visitor’s badge.

Watch D.O.G.S: This is a group of fathers and father figures that volunteer their time on our campus. Our campus counselor organizes the program and will be sharing more information as the year progresses.
