Humble ISD has heard from residents of Trailwood Village about the new Foster Elementary campus site plan, and some are concerned that there’s not much open green space included.
The City of Houston and Harris County Flood Control rules have changed since 1971 when Foster Elementary opened. New regulations do not allow for the site plan to stay the same as it was. New buildings are now required to have bigger detention areas to handle flooding and more parking spots so that cars are not crowding neighborhood streets. These new regulations result in less land for grass and open space.
The district has taken the requests for more green space seriously. First, the district has paused work on the remaining parking lot for now. Second, the district is working with architects, engineers and city/county officials to find ways to add more green space. It will take some time for these experts to determine what options are feasible within current regulations.
The district wants to share multiple options and get your feedback at a Foster Elementary Community Meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 12, at Kingwood Middle School, 2407 Pine Terrace. The meeting is open to the public.
We look forward to sharing visions for the future and gathering your feedback and input on May 12.
