Nancy Pinkerton Multipurpose Room

The new multipurpose room at Greentree Elementary School will be named the Nancy Pinkerton Multipurpose Roomafter after long-time principal Nancy Pinkerton, who passed away in 2022. Older elementary schools are gaining a multipurpose room/gym on their campuses so that the schools will have dedicated space for school assemblies and indoor PE. The Nancy Pinkerton Multipurpose Room is projected to open near the end of the 2024 fall semester and a dedication ceremony will be held then.

Mrs. Pinkerton’s career as an educator spanned 53 years. She began her career in 1969 in Aldine ISD and later taught in Dallas ISD. Mrs. Pinkerton came to Humble ISD in 1980 where she served for 42 years. She taught at Bear Branch Elementary School and was the Assistant Principal at Lakeland Elementary School. She became Principal of Greentree Elementary School in 1988 and continued in that position until 2010, when she retired. However, she came back to help Humble ISD families whenever asked, including serving as Principal of Willow Creek Elementary School from 2012 to 2016, Assistant Principal at Willow Creek Elementary School from 2016 to 2020, and as a guest teacher for the remainder of her life.

“Mrs. Pinkerton tried to retire a couple times and we talked her into coming back, and she served as an interim principal for a while, and she served as an assistant principal to help guide a new principal,” Board member Robert Sitton said at the May 14, 2024, meeting where the School Board unanimously voted to name the new building.

“She was a community leader,” Board member Chris Parker said. “She was absolutely a wonderful lady. She passed away a couple of years ago and I’ve been wanting to do this for Nancy’s family so I’m honored and want to thank you all for allowing it to be on this month’s agenda.”

Board member Martina Lemond Dixon said Mrs. Pinkerton was the principal for all four of her children when they attended Greentree Elementary School.

“Mrs. Pinkerton was a firecracker and had lots of energy,” Ms. Lemond Dixon said. “She knew every kid’s name. Even when they came back for their Senior Reception at high school graduation, she still knew every kid's name.”

Dr. Roger Brown, Acting Superintendent, remembered Ms. Pinkerton’s special gift for making families feel welcome and special. “When she was at Willow Creek Elementary, what I remember about Nancy is the way she would, in the morning drop off area, greet families and their pets,” Dr. Brown said. “She always had dog treats in her pockets for the pets when the cars pulled up. She was a very classy lady and a servant leader. It’s great to honor her and her family.”
