Alumni History

The History of Humble High School

Alumni Association

The History of the Alumni Association, during the school year of 1930-31, several meetings were held concerning the organization of a "homecoming" of graduates, other than the already established practice of homecomings associated with a home football game.

It was shortly after Homecoming 1930 that all the graduates living in or near Humble, who were interested in such an event, were urged to meet and serve as special advisor's. Several meetings were held during the remainder of the year, but no final conclusions were reached. Committees were formed and work continued.

Financial support was a major roadblock. A play was prepared and presented to which help provide a fund to send out notices, advertisement and assure the expenses involved in a Banquet were met. Willie Harley, class of 1923 was also President of the PTA and that group agreed to take care of food preparation. PTA mothers helped cook the food and undergraduates served as waitresses and helped with the clean up. Finally, penny postcards were sent out for the first Alumni get-together, held in a private home. Getting addresses for a larger get-together was a mammoth task, as it is today. There was still no "formal organization."

Lloyd Long, President of the 1931 Senior Class helped in all phases of planning. Under his direction, an organization was established and plans for the 1st Saturday in June, 1932 went forth. The banquet was designed for graduates ONLY and were to be held on the first Saturday in June each year.

In 1991 the event date was changed to the 2nd Saturday in June to not conflict with Humble High School's graduation. The 20th and 50th year graduation classes are considered the "Honor Classes".

The planning committee meets each month from August until the event the following June. All graduates are urged to participate and help make this tradition live on for Humble High School alumni.

In recent years, both graduates and their guests are welcomed to the banquet and dance.

May the Humble High School Celebration Evening live on forever and have many memories to share.
