CREST award

We love the Counseling team at Kingwood High School. We see up close and personal the efforts that they put into serving our students and staff. It is so nice to see them represented above the campus level for all of their hard work!

The KHS Counseling team is such a big part of our campus. As Mrs. Steinke says, "I am so excited and proud to be part of this KHS Counseling team! So very thankful for the amazing support of our Personalized Counseling! We are stronger because of our community!"

The students, staff, and parents of Kingwood High School are truly stronger because of the efforts of our counseling team! Thank you, Counselors! Congratulations!

One of the new additions to KHS this year is the "Counselor's Corner" where the Counseling Team gets out of their offices and spends time in the cafeteria at lunch. Students can simply walk up to discuss any issues they are dealing with. This has been a very positive addition to our campus!

Counselor CornerBelow is a description and history of this award. Please read the description for a better understanding of how our counseling team works daily to meet all of the requirements of the campus, district, and state. It's hard to define the love and work that goes into their time at KHS. We are so proud of them!

In 2005, Texas School Counselor Association began a program called CREST to recognize schools with outstanding counseling programs. Schools receiving CREST awards have demonstrated a commitment using the Texas Model to improve the lives and achievement of students in academic, career, and personal social domains. The Texas School Counseling Association is proud to announce CREST winners for the 2023-2024 school year.

CREST is a continuous improvement document that gives a school counseling program an opportunity to demonstrate effective communication and a commitment to obtaining results. CREST helps counselors to evaluate their counseling programs, promote their programs to the stakeholders in their districts, demonstrate the effectiveness of their guidance and counseling programs through empirical means, and to implement the Texas and National models for school counseling programs.

CREST looks at the counseling program in five categories:

  •  Introduction to the School and the Role of the Professional School Counselor

  • Program Implementation Cycle

  • Foundational Components

  • Four Service Delivery Components

  • Program Curriculum

The counseling team prepares a digital submission that highlights these areas and communicates just what the counseling program is doing to help students succeed. These are sent to reviewers throughout the state of Texas to be judged according to pre-set standards of excellence.

Congratulations to Kingwood High School for being one of an elite group of schools from across the state to win the CREST Award for Counseling Excellence for 2023-2024.  Our Counselors are truly All IN for Kingwood! #KingwoodALLIN
