The engineering classes created pixelated sculptures of images that interested them. This allowed them to practice math and estimation skills, to work in a team, and to demonstrate how pixels translate into a recognizable image, which is the basis for any image you see on a screen.
Of course, images on a computer screen contain millions of pixels, but you can get a pretty good image with just a couple of hundred pixels, as shown by the students' work. This all leads to an understanding of how images are created electronically, and helps in our exploration of STEM fields with a focus on drafting.
