Coach Christopher Bence from Kingwood High School has been selected to be part of the 2024 R.O.C.K. Mentoring Program! Coach Bence was nominated for this program by a colleague because they have proven to be an outstanding coach. The program’s namesake was founded on the words RARE, OUTSTANDING, COMPELLED, and KNOWLEDGEABLE – all traits that your coach portrays.

Coach BThe R.O.C.K. Mentoring Program, a partnership formed between the Texas High School Coaches Education Foundation and Texas A&M Thornton-McFerrin Coaching Academy, has been created to meet the needs of and retain high school and middle school teacher-coaches. As you know, coaches at all levels impact large numbers of individuals, teams, and communities daily.  Positive lifelong physical, mental, emotional, and social components can be found in well-led athletic teams, programs, and communities.  There is a critical need to cultivate and assist our young coaches to find their passion and be prepared as coaches, teachers, and leaders in an ever-evolving environment. In this increasingly rewarding, complicated, and challenging area, the R.O.C.K. Mentoring Program has been developed by and for coaches to cultivate leadership, foster work alignment, execute best practices, combat apathy, enhance time management, and address work-life balance issues.

Coach B 1The program’s framework is designed to be motivating while providing support, growth opportunities, and confidence. Furthermore, our program works to ensure that coaches have the tools to make an optimal impact on their athletes' emotional, mental, and physical performance.  Most importantly, we strive to empower coaches to instill character, integrity, and life lessons into athletic performance.

The Mission of THSCA ROCK Program: To help coaches find their “Why” and find their “Way”.

1. Cultivate and assist young coaches in finding their passion and being prepared as coaches and leaders in an ever-evolving environment.

2. Decrease the attrition rate of coaches leaving the profession.
