Colton Heron participated in Ote Berry’s 2024 National Junior World’s Steer Wrestling Championship in Las Vegas. This is Colton’s first year of steer wrestling - he started this sport in January and blazed a trail to the National Finals.
Colton won second place in the first go for “16 and under. ” He won a pair of Justin boots, a Resistol hat, and a cash prize.
This year Colton was awarded the “Gunner Thames Memorial Buckle for Determination,” named for Gunner Thames who died in a rodeo accident at age 15. The award honors an athlete with the same determination as Gunner. Colton won the award because he is considered an underdog in the rodeo community since he is a “city boy.”
Colton was recognized for his tremendous hard work in his rookie season as a steer wrestler, having only started this sport in January and already becoming a national finalist. We look forward to following Colton on his rodeo path!
