The KHS Student Council Executive Team has returned from their postponed trip to Disneyland!

Originally scheduled to go the first week of December, they postponed their trip when the KHS football team made it to the 4th round of the playoffs. KHS Student Body President Nathan Pearce said, "We couldn't imagine being out of town with the football team going so far."

Student Council members run the spirit flags at the football games, paint the big run-thru signs, does the daily PA announcements, and pep rallies at school. "Sure we missed Disneyland at Christmas, but we were able to do a lot for school spirit that week," explained Mae Spijkerman.

They gave a daily shout-out to the band, sports medicine, cheerleaders, and drill team and fed them lunch on Friday after the pep rally. The football parents provided chips, cheerleader parents provided fruit, and the drill team parents brought in deserts. StuCo came to school at 5 AM that morning and cooked 525 hot dogs.

The trip is an annual leadership retreat to either Disneyland or Disney World. The StuCo Executive Team participates in a leadership workshop put on by Disney officials as part of the Disney Imagination Campus.

"We've been attending the leadership workshop for many years." says Sponsor Jamie Morris. "The kids love it and it is a nice reward for their hard work all year. This year was definitely different, but we loved going so far in the playoffs!"

Unfortunately, the school group was unable to be refunded for their canceled leadership course tickets. They lost a lot of un-refundable money by postponing their trip. Sponsor David Knight commented, "We advanced to the next round on Friday night and we were scheduled to leave on Tuesday. Disney would not transfer our program at that late date. We can always make up the funding somehow, but missing that week of school spirit and pride could never be replaced."

*On another note, the students were able to see the Los Angeles fires as we flew in Tuesday night. They only saw a bit of haze from the smoke at Disneyland, but they flew in and out of LAX and smoke could be seen in the hills. The local news was covering the fires and it was terrible to see the damage.
